Prophet Obadare Timothy Oluwole dies at 83

Cunned from Tribune Website

Renowed world evangelist and founder of the World Soul Winning Evangelical Ministry (WOSEM), Prophet Timothy Oluwole Obadare, of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) worldwide is dead.
The clergyman died on Thursday in his residence, No 65-67, Adinlewa Street, Akure at the age of 83.
Obadare, who was said to have been ill for sometime now was said to have died of illness related to old age.
Confirming the development, one of the sons of the deceased, Joseph, said his father died in the afternoon of Thursday. He, however, said further details about the death of the man of God would be made known by the eldest son of the deceased who was said to be on his way back to Nigeria from the United States of America. The young Obadare said, “it is a fact that Baba has passed unto glory but I am not in a position to give details of the development. When my brother comes back, he will give the necessary information as he is in the best position to talk”.
He, however, described Obadare as a man of God that would be missed by everybody.
When Nigerian Tribune visited the residence located in the heart of the town, church members, relatives and people from the vicinity were seen trooping into the compound to confirm the news and symphatise with the family.
The Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, described Obadare’s death as a march of the saint. Mimiko, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, said Obadare’s life, ministry and influence can be likened to those of the saints, rare and uncommon.”
Obadare, who started his eventful ministerial work in 1952 with the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), established WOSEM in 1974 with headquarters in Akure. He used the platform of WOSEM to win many souls for the Lord as he embarked on series of open air crusade as well as television ministration. His ministry was marked with many signs and wonders. With a strong passion for soul winning, he also established branches of WOSEM in many parts of the country as well as Europe and the Americas.
However, it was WOSEM, which brought him into national and international prominence, that also brought him in collision with the authorities of CAC, where he was the General Evangelist.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’S ‘THE 20/20 EXPERIENCE’ IS SLAYING ITUNES IN UNIMAGINABLE WAYS

Justin Timberlake The 20 20 Experience

Where my JT haters at?

The 20/20 Experience is currently No. 1 on iTunes in 65 countries. A new record, but since I don’t know that for a fact unless I get some proof of whatever the previous record was, I won’t report it like it’s the gospel or anything. But since it’s most probably true, I’ll just let y’all know so you can stew and remain pressed at GodT’s digital domination.

I think I’m going to start some kind of collection to raise funds to help rehabilitate Timberlake haters so that they can one day reenter society and function as normal people again. Considering how hard JT is slaughtering and snatching right now, it’s going to take a lot of money to make this happen. I mean, this dude ditched the music scene for YEARS, and then came out of nowhere with a song that went against everything on the charts and still managed to SMACK that strawberry bubblegum like he never left.

Hatin’ ass bitches, just accept JT as your King and be done with it. Stop fighting it, because resistance is futile.

Skeptics Sound the Alarm Over Google Glass

Google Glass

Advertising and Internet search giant Google is set to roll out the much-hyped Google Glass. If you haven’t heard about Google Glass yet, you will.
The futuristic frames will allow the wearer to, among other things, record your image and your conversations without your permission. Sure, anyone can surreptitiously record or videotape you by using their smart phones, but Google Glass puts this technology literally in your face.
Google Glass

Conspiracy theorists and alarmists are already comparing Google Glass to the ultra spy technology that George Orwell foretold in his classic book 1984 (published in 1949).
The Google Glass wearer can videotape you and, in the blink of an eye, upload the footage to Instagram or Facebook.
Maybe it’s the fear of losing the last remaining vestiges of privacy we have left that’s spurring intense public opposition to the ‘Glass’.
Some business owners have already posted signs banning the ‘Glass’ from their establishments before the digital frames have even hit retail stores.
“They argue, rightly, that this is more than just a question of privacy,” writesTelegraph.UK, a British newspaper.
“You can see the marketing already – Glass is all-knowing. The issue is that to be all-knowing, it needs you to help it be all-seeing. If choice is an illusion created between those with power and those without, then Google Glass goes to the heart of what it is to live in a digital world and what it is to exercise choice about your privacy.”

Ashanti’s album set for June (says Amazon, but that’s very unlikely)…

Ashanti hasn’t announced a release date for her serially delayed new album ‘Braveheart’, but music’s biggest online retailerAmazon keeps re-listing when they will have it on sale. Will it EVER come out?

They will stock 15 copies of ‘Braveheart’ on June 4th, 20 months after she released the album’s lead single, the Busta Rhymes-assisted ‘The Woman You Love’ on December 15th 2011. All we ever get from Ashanti these days are Instagram photos of herself in the studio “crafting a hit record” in a desperate bid to convince fans that the album really is dropping this year (it won’t). More details to follow after the cut.

She’s currently throwing herself into promoting her recurring new role in Lifetime’s series‘Army Wives’. She looks beautiful in the ‘Army Wives’ promo and at least fans have something to look forward to, even if it’s not music:
If you want me to be totally honest, I think that ship has long sailed for the Fuse News host. I like Ashanti and I think she puts out quality R&B music but these days, that’s never enough.

Keyshia Cole admits releasing a single with Nicki Minaj was a bad idea

The R&B Diva Keyshia Cole(pic below) regrets her decision to release her single “I Ain’t Thru” from her new CD Calling All Hearts, featuring newcomer rapper Nicki Minaj.
Though her rap style is cartoonish, Minaj is the hottest thing smoking in Hip Hop right now. And it’s understandable that Cole wanted some of that heat on her record. But Cole now admits that that particular single wasn’t the right vehicle for both of them to jump on.
The label didn’t really want to drop the record because they knew that people wanted a more intense, soulful record from me about love and I really should have followed (their) direction. But I wanted that to be a statement record. It’s like saying, ‘I’m doing me, you know. I don’t have no regrets for nothing that I’m doing’
What Keyshia didn’t comment on was the ongoing power struggle between her management and the label that spilled out of the boardroom and into the streets.
Such was the animosity between her manager, Manny Hailey, and Interscope Records that Cole hired a second manager to keep an eye on things for her.
One of those ‘things’ being her fourth studio album, Calling All Hearts.
One Interscope record label exec told me the album sounded like it was “rushed in the studio.” The exec, who asked to remain anonymous, indicated that the higher ups at the label weren’t happy with the end product and they voted to shelve the album indefinitely. But, he said, Keyshia’s management insisted that the album be released.
“There’s no way to predict how people will respond to things,” said Ron Fair, chairman of Geffen (Interscope) Records. “It’s something that Keyshia really wanted to say.”
Calling All Hearts is in stores now.

Watch: Justin Timberlake disses Kanye West on SNL, Jay-Z joins him…

King of suave known as Justin Timberlake played double duty as host and musical guest on last night’s ‘Saturday Night Live’. JT now joins the all exclusive five-timers club, giving us some hilarious skits in between.

Justin performed ‘Suit & Tie’ with some help from his band, theTennessee Kids and his ‘Legends of the Summer’ tour mate Jay-Z. He even added a new line responding to Kanye West‘s criticism of the hit song: “My hit so sick got rappers actin’ dramatic!” This was so thinly unveiled that it was all types of slick! This did not deter Kanye’s supposed to be older brother from coming out and gleefully rapping his verses like it was nothing. Ha!

Kanye’s reprisal is going to be so out there that JT is bound to sweat real hard causing his straight hair to frizz up and go back curly again! After his charming performance of ‘Suit’, the tuxedo-clad crooner later performed his UK #1 hit single ‘Mirrors’. JT is gearing up to release his third studio album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ in little over a week and he’s practically been everywhere as of late. Check out all the action above!

EU Farmers, Consumers Shift Ground on GM Foods

290712F3.Akinwumi-Adesina.jpg - 290712F3.Akinwumi-Adesina.jpgDr. Akinwumi Adesina, Agric Minister

Crusoe Osagie

The sixth Forum for Agriculture (FFA), held recently at The Square, Brussels, Belgium ended with capitulation by the Europeans on some key issues.
The first came after the impressive presentation made by Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on Africa’s new way for food production and economic development. FFA has become, to Europeans, a “Davos for agriculture,” as one of the speakers said at the event.
As European countries set the pace for themselves on the future of their own agriculture, a discovery at Brussels showed that Africa is one of the solutions they are considering, as one of the leading speakers noted that “there are complementarities between Africa and the EU.”
This brought Nigeria into focus as it addresses its own peculiar agricultural challenges and prospects. And that opportunity was amply utilised as Adesina sought to convince Europe of the prospects ahead for Africa in agriculture.
Chair of Forum for Agriculture 2012 and chairman of Rise Foundation, Franz Fischler, agreed that the future of agriculture in Africa is bright. In his remarks, Fischler said he was impressed about the optimism expressed by Adesina on the future of African agriculture. He said he became convinced after listening to the minister, although he stressed that the EU agricultural stakeholders have been pessimistic before now.
Joris Relaes, Director of Cabinet at Cabinet Minister-President Kris Peeters, told the gathering of farmers, scientists, agribusiness operators, EU policy makers and government representatives that “transition towards bio-economy is already happening.” He estimated EU’s bio-economy as being worth 2 trillion euros. He reckoned that “every euro invested in bio-economy now will yield 10 euros in 2025.”
Bio-economy involves a production system that uses biological systems, one of which, prominently, is the genetic engineering. Bio-economy is expected to lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide, it was agreed at the forum. And Relaes concurred that genetic modification cannot be avoided if bio-economy is to grow. He emphasised that bio-economy is “knowledge-based” and “would require investment and innovation to grow.”
If issues discussed were not put into vote, it could easily have been concluded that Relaes expressed only his own opinion. At voting time when four key issues considered as urgent priorities were tabled, a greater number of participants, standing at 31 per cent of voters, voted in favour of a shift in stance, accepting widespread application of new technologies, including genetic modification as the most urgent options of solutions to European agriculture, going forward. Europe has hitherto been very rigid on application of genetic modification in agriculture.
Dr. Sara Nigro, explaining Syngenta’s involvement in the forum, said this was “big for awareness on public policy making to have interactions, debates and discussions on ideas.” According to her, it was nice to interact with stakeholders who are farmers and consumers in such a place, to know what their customers want on agricultural policy. This, she said, was “a good way to discuss, to create awareness on how farmers can interact with the environment.”
According to Nigro, “biotechnology can help protect farmers against losses and in the conservation of genetic materials, especially medicinal plants.” It can also help on “what types of interventions are needed,” such as herbicide tolerance, disease resistance tolerance and higher yields. “It could be introduced as a balance,” she said, “but the education of the people is key. It is good to get scientists to discuss and explain why genetically modified foods are safe.”
Another thorny issue in European agriculture also received a hard look. Europe is not taking lightly the issue of intensification. Again, De Castro, Chair of Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, European Parliament, noted unapologetically that “sustainable intensification is the way to go.” He called for “more public investment in research and development,” arguing that the private sector spends so much more than the public sector on R&D.
Despite a call for intensification of agriculture as part of the theme of the conference, voting revealed a narrow difference (at 44 per cent) between those who want farm sizes to increase to enable economies of scale and those who are in favour of intensification (42 per cent) while 18 per cent of voters were undecided.
Europe may well be backpedalling on earlier decisions on agricultural intensification, forced on them by rights activists. Allan Buckwell, Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Environmental Policy, simply observed that battery cages farming in poultry and livestock cannot be wished away, especially as extensive farming puts pressure on land.
This statement came against the backdrop of a dilemma on whether to open up more land for farming or to sustainably use existing agricultural land under intensification.
It was agreed upon that intensification in crop farming is not the same as animal farming. And EU Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potocnik, concluded that “agricultural policy must work in favour of biodiversity, wastes and climate. We must keep partnership between agricultural and environmental policies.
Franz Fischler reiterated what Bob Zoelick had earlier said, that “we are starting a new era in agriculture.” And, in the coming one decade and a half, “we can expect a steady increase in commodity prices, volatility and increase in prices.”
Fischler said that the profitability of agriculture in Europe will not grow. Europe will lose an increasing number of agricultural workforce. The question then came: how to intensify sustainably, considering economy, ecology and social protection?

Rabbit Farming For Health And Wealth

rabit

Currently, domestic supply is about 0.5 million tons (Over 30% of demand) including massive importation which gulps over N20 billion annually. Preliminary market analysis according to IFC suggests that an additional 25,000 tons or 100% increase in current production can be easily absorbed.
Cattle which could have been another major source of protein, is being drained by desert encroachment, pest attacks and other factors.
Mini-Livestock production like grasscutter, guinea pig, Porcupine, snail and rabbit is thus placed on the spotlight as the best option for food security in the country today.
Rabbit farming is a profitable business with high probability of recouping original investment. Consequently, expansion in rabbit farming will not only generate jobs and income for farmers, but will also create small-scale business for market mammies and restaurants.
The rabbit-farming business is adaptable to any location. Many owners use shed, backyard, and old barns as sites for rabbit hutch. With the Red-Meat situation what it is and the economy in a turmoil, now is a good time to consider the rabbit business. The best way I know to put good food on the table and a few naira in your pocket without a large investment, is raising rabbits. The Profits can come in many ways: you can sell your rabbit or the urine for laboratory use, the manure for fertilizer to horticulturist or for worm growing, even the hide and fur for expensive leather works. The white-meat, however, is by far the most important product.
The business of Rabbit farming in Nigeria is growing at a feverish pitch attracting entrepreneurs who are considering it either as a complimentary business proposition or as a main and sustainable revenue stream. But either proposition has potentials to earn decent returns. This could be taken to be a fair confirmation of the position that, run professionally, Rabbit farming may well be a key wealth creation engagement to consider in the country.
Local demand for rabbit meat is increasing as the people become more health conscious by avoiding the consumption of red meat. Rabbit are monogastric animals, they are medium-sized hopping mammals with long legs, long ears and short tails. The main reason rabbits are now being preferred by some farmers for rearing purposes is because it is easy to house. They have a short gestation period of 30 to 31days and they are very prolific animal, that is they can produce many litters. In this category, they are next to pigs and grasscutters.  A female rabbit of a good specie can litter up to 50 babies in a year. Other advantages are that they are efficient converters of wide range of vegetables matters into meat, they have a rearing period of seven to nine weeks and they have a high rate of ailment resistance. Rabbits are reared mainly for their meat and the meat is white meat like that of grasscutter. They make good healthy meat, which is averagely delicious and more nutritious than any other meat. The meat is tender, palatable and not fatty. This type of meat is recommended for patient with cardiac problems, diabetes and high blood pressure.
You can get started, without the costly items the so-called experts say you should have, with 25,000 one can kick-off with one male and four females depending on the age, weight and specie. They are reared in cages with galvanized wire mesh floor which costs N16,000 to N20,000, therefore with N45,000 one is already in business.
You can put a few naira in your pocket from just 15 minutes work a day, rabbit farming is good business.
Jovana farms organizes nationwide sensitization training seminars on the practical ways of making it through small scale farming. Attend our nationwide seminars nearest to you and know more opportunities in grasscutter farming. Visit  www.jovanafarm.com for more details.

Keeping Nigerian Back to Rural Areas

Driven by lack of job opportunities and dearth of infrastructural facilities in rural communities, the rural populace in their large numbers move to the cities. Following effort of Lagos State government to develop rural communities in the state, Alexander Chiejina writes on the gains of this initiative and the quest to reduce rural-urban drift.
The traffic gridlock at Ikorodu is not a pleasurable one. This is the only access road leading to the area. I spend two hours to commute from Ikorodu to Ketu and vice versa; a journey that ordinarily takes about 30 minutes. The existing roadway is a two-lane dual carriageway, is now expanded to accommodate a BRT scheme. With the BRT scheme linking Mile 12, Agric and Ikorodu as well as the construction of new roads within Ikorodu communities, the quest for people to leave Ikorodu for highbrow areas in Lagos State would reduce,” Bilkis Owolabi, a banker who resides in the area.
For Wasiu Enifeni, a businessman, “the feeder roads under construction at Epe and Ikorodu in Lagos would reduce the agony farmers face when conveying agricultural products to the market. These roads would improve economic activity in the area known for agriculture. Businesses would be attracted to these communities, which would reduce the rural-urban drift.”
In the past, rural communities were cherished due to their closeness to nature. Driven by lack of job opportunities and dearth in infrastructural facilities, the rural populace move out in large numbers temporarily or permanently to towns and cities to seek out new opportunities, improved livelihoods and better standard of living. To their disbelief, some end up in city slums scratching out a living with limited capacity to adapt to socio-economic changes in the new environment they find themselves.
As farming activities in these communities are partly abandoned, agricultural production and food availability are threatened.
According to World Bank Data in 2011, the percentage of rural population in Nigeria declined from 53.3 percent in 2000 to 49.7 percent in 2010 due to migration and urbanisation. While the decline is due to lack in infrastructural development, the rural sector is predominantly agriculture-based (including livestock, forestry and fisheries).
Prior to the last two decades that ushered in new paradigm to solving rural and agricultural problems, several programmes and projects were developed to reduce poverty and solve rural problems in the country.
For example, the National Accelerated Food Production Programme (NAFPP) in the 60s; Operation Feed the Nation (OFN) in 1976; Green Revolution Programme (GR) 1979, and Directorate of Food, Road and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI) in 1987. Sadly, most of these programmes were bureaucratic and unable to effectively address the needs of the rural people.
Rural areas were associated with agriculture, which still depends on manual and local efforts. The implication, experts say, has resulted in rural communities depending on agricultural sector for income, employment and other opportunities. Despite its contribution to the national economy and GDP, rural areas still remained poor and deeply neglected.
Investments in physical, social and economic infrastructure have been focused largely on the cities. As a result, the rural population has extremely limited access to services such as schools and health centres, while the highest number of the populace lacks access to safe drinking water.

The  Lagos example

In Lagos, especially in the rural areas where the majority of Lagosians live, residents in Epe, Ayobo, Agege, Alimosho, Ejigbo, Ikorodu, Kosofe, and other council areas, are grappling with the challenge of electricity, good road network, potable water supply and sanitation.
In a bid to stem rural urban drift in the state and give these community dwellers a taste of urban development, the Lagos State government took it upon itself to site some projects in these affected areas in the state.
The benefitting communities are spread across the three geo-political zones of the state where until now, confronted with unique challenges of basic social amenities. The ‘Agric Yes’ initiative was designed to produce entrepreneurial farmers in the area of poultry, fish farming, bee-keeping and all season vegetable farming as well as correct the problem of the old Farm Settlement Schemes in the state.
According to BusinessDay findings, the Ikorodu Fish Farm Estate, which has been fully subscribed, is currently producing at 60 percent of its capacity. A technological incubation centre is added with hatcheries and processing facilities that will add value to the estate.
“With the success recorded at Ikorodu, the ministry has cleared a 60-hectare farmland at Ketu, Ereyun in Epe LGA for another 400 plots capacity Fish Farm Estate. The land has been surveyed and laid out with the front fence, gate and site office in place. The estate, which will be the largest Fish Farm Estate in Africa, will produce about 20,000 tons of fresh fish per annum,” a staff at Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture, said anonymously.
Currently, construction work is ongoing on the 13.5-kilometre Lagos-Mile12-Ikorodu Road by Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC). The project, which is divided into three lots, with Lot I and II already awarded, on completion would transform the face of transportation in and out of Ikorodu and significantly reduce the traffic situation and fare charged on the road by commercial bus operators.
Interestingly, proposal for the review of Ikorodu, Epe and Issa Williams urban master plan are underway in the state. This move is aimed at ensuring an all round development across the state, with emphasis on developmental projects that will boost the rural economy, and by extension, contribute to the growth of the state’s economy. This is also targeted at making life easy for people in the rural communities just as being enjoyed at the city centres.
The new proposals, courtesy of the Ministry for Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPPUD), targeted at infrastructural renewal, sustainable urban planning and development. For instance, in the case of Ikorodu, the plan, which is set to cover six Local Development Areas (LDAs), is to create growth poles and focal points, redesign some villages and review existing land use as well as seek to revitalise the Ikorodu industrial scheme.
Speaking to newsmen at Alausa recently, Olutoyin Ayinde, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, said that the Ikorodu Master Plan, when completed, would absorb population from the densely populated areas, provide employment opportunities, housing and recreation network of interconnected transport system.
He said that the Epe regional plan, which comprises of the present Ibeju, Lekki, Agbowa and Eredo local development councils, is aimed at opening and unlocking the potentials of the state, by directing development northeastward.
“Just like the Ikorodu and Epe master plans, the Issa William is also aimed at creating a compact city which is capable of free more land for greenery,” Ayinde said. He added that an implementation committee has been set up to ensure compliance with the plan.
Kelvin Orji, a resident of Ikorodu, said that with the government constructing feeder roads around rural areas known for agriculture, the quest to leave these communities for greener pastures would be reduced.
“Opening of more rural feeder roads and water jetties, provision of rural basic amenities, micro Water Schemes for Model Colleges and rural/semi-urban Communities, electricity will reduce the urge to leave these areas for highbrow areas in search for greener pastures,” Orji said.
To give the rural communities a facelift, access roads are been constructed to link up villages in places like Imude road, Shibiri-Etegbin road, Ajangbandi-Illogbo road, Agboroko-Igbo road, Elerin road and Ariyo-Muyo-Tedi Oshun road, etc.
The state government has completed some rural electrification projects under its rural intervention scheme with transformers and solar-powered water projects distributed to various communities. Six contiguous communities i.e. Baiyeku (Ikorodu LGA), Ilasan (Eti-Osa LGA), Seme (Badagry), Ilogbo Eremi (Badagry) and Sekungba (Epe LGA) have their existing non-functional micro water schemes rehabilitated. In addition, modern abattoirs are been established at Ologe, Oko-Oba, and Lairage to boost food security.
Rent pattern for properties
Buoyed by the demands of property seekers who crave affordable, but decent properties around Ayobo, Ipaja, Egbeda, Akowonjo, Idimu, and Ikotun axis of the Lagos metropolis, BusinessDay findings showed that they all almost have uniform charges on rent for properties, with slight variation from area to area.
At Ayobo/Ipaja, a 3-bedroom flat in the government-owned residential estates of Abesan, Gowon and Shagari goes between N300, 000 and N350, 000 per annum, while 2-bedroom flat goes between N200, 000 to N250, 000 per annum for rent. One room Boys Quarters or self-contained apartments goes for between N120, 000 and N160, 000 per annum.
At Egbeda and Akowonjo axis which have witnessed a rise in population, a 3-bedroom flat in Egbeda/Akowonjo and environs such as Orelope, Okun-ola, Vulcaniser etc goes for N300, 000 per annum while a 2-bedroom flat goes for N250, 000 though the rent vary in some quarters. A self-contained apartment in this area is between N150, 000 and N180, 000 per annum.
While the road networks around these areas are currently under construction and interlinking, it is not immune from the general traffic snarls experienced all around Lagos for prospective tenants seeking to acquire properties.
The Lagos State Tenancy Law notwithstanding, rent in these areas are still demanded in excess of one and half to two years. This is not inclusive of the agency fees and other commissions charged by the estate agents.
According to David Usiholo, an estate developer, landed properties are fast appreciating around the Ikotun, Iyana-Ipaja axis, where they can still be found in scanty supplies.
According to Usholo, “Plots of land bought in January 2012 in Ikotun, Ayobo and Agege areas at N3 million were being sold at about N3.8milllion. This is also projected to rise when the roads linking the area are completed by the Lagos State Government.”
The ongoing 10-lane expansion of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, has for a long time been a prime location for property owners and other businesses, waiting to be tapped. According to estate developers, in the not-too- distant future, factories and companies, including shopping malls, will begin to spring up in higher proportion to residential buildings.
The road project is divided into three lots. Lot 1 is from Eric Moore in Surulere to Mile 2, which is about 7.5 kilometres. And lot 2 is from Mile 2 to Agbara, which is about 28 kilometres, while lot 3 is from Agbara to Badagry.
Stakeholders agree that the construction will result in boom in commercial activities in the area. There is also optimism that when completed, the road and rail will increase the fortunes of the area to a large extent. For instance, they are quick to point out that the International Trade Fair Complex, which has never been used to its full potential, will get a lift in business activities.
For a long time, investors have shied away from the complex, making it a waste of resources because it is only at fair periods that business thrives there. This situation is compounded by the traffic jam experienced on the road to the complex. But when the construction is completed, it will open up the area.
Besides, with the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Trade Liberalisation policy, the Lagos–Badagry axis beckons as prime location for investors in the manufacturing sector, considering its link to the rest of the west coast and the huge Lagos market, which can be easily assessed

Reducing rural-urban drift
Mustapha Alli, a resident of Ipaja in Lagos suggested that functional amenities such as pipe borne water, electricity, and recreational facilities should be provided in the rural areas. Alli advised that good educational facilities and qualified teachers should be made available in the rural areas.
“Agro-allied industries should be set up in the rural areas in order to provide job opportunity for the people, and reduce rural-urban migration. Agricultural inputs and farming technology such as mechanisation should be introduced to improve production. Good road should be constructed in the rural areas; also credit facilities should be made available with relaxed terms and conditions. This way, the rural-urban drift, which is a common phenomenon in the country, would be reduced.

Nigeria: A Murder so cruel

Sola Adegbeha: died if gunshot injury.
Sola Adegbeha
A wedding ceremony was what the family of Sola Adegbeha, a 35-year-old Geography graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, had in mind. Adegbeha, a livestock farmer, was due to marry his fiancee, a US-based nurse in a little over a month. Now, a funeral is what the family has been forced to prepare for.

On 8 January, Adegbeha, who hailed from Ipele in Ondo State, was shot dead by a police corporal, Julius Ekundayo, at a checkpoint in Ibadan, capital of  Oyo State. The circumstances of his death have provoked conflicting and incoherent narratives by the family and the police.
Adegbeha’s family suspects that the deceased, who left his younger sister’s home at Oluyole area of Ibadan at dawn to keep a business appointment in the Bodija area of the city, was shot because he refused to give money to the cops who flagged down his Mazda 626 car at the checkpoint. After he was shot Adegbeha managed to get to the nearby Group Medical Hospital, where he sought treatment. The family also suspects that the deceased was not promptly attended to because he did not take a police report to the hospital. A security man at the hospital was said to have been told to go to the police station at Jemibewon Road and get a police report. On his way back to the hospital, he was accompanied by some policemen, among whom Adegbeha identified the one who shot him. Adegbeha, however, died shortly afterwards.
Immediately he died, claimed the family, the police, without contacting the family, deposited his body at a morgue. A death certificate issued at 6:30am by the hospital revealed the primary cause of the death as “haemorrhagic shock”, and secondary cause as “gunshot injury at lower back”.
But Mr. Olayiwola Abiodun, an official of the hospital, denied that the hospital demanded a police report. He said it was the hospital that sent a security man to the police station to inform the police of the development. He said, “The doctor was attending to the deceased before he gave up the ghost,” said Olayiwola.
The suspicion of the family that money was the cause of the disagreement between the deceased and the police is based on their claim that Adegbeha had some money on him with which he planned to buy poultry feed.
Police sources claimed that the deceased failed to produce the particulars of his vehicle as well as a proof of ownership and suggested that he wanted to speed off, something that provoked the cop that shot him.
Counsel to the Adegbeha family, Mr. Wasiu Salimon, vowed to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet. “We are taking up the matter.  It is sad that police officers hired to protect Nigerians have turned around to be killing us at will,” he said.
What, however, is not in dispute is the identity of the man who pulled the trigger. Mr. Clement Adoda, state Deputy Commissioner of Police, told TheNEWS that the killer corporal is in police detention and will be prosecuted if investigated and found to have acted without discretion.

NIGERIA: Expand National Biotechnology Devt Agency to all states – Okolo

The Federal Government has been urged to expand the presence of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) beyond Abuja to all the 36 states so that farmers can know about what the agency is doing.

Dr. Simon Chukwuemeka Okolo, the immediate past national President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), who made the call in Aba, Abia State, said that the presence of the agency in all states of the federation will facilitate government’s Agriculture Transformation Agenda.

He pointed out that new farming information, techniques, seedlings and livestock being produced by this agency is not being utilised by farmers in Nigeria.

Established 11 years ago, the agency is under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and  it is currently charged with the with the following mandates:  researching into mass production of improved varieties of crop seedlings and live stocks in the country, develop an indigenous critical mass of human resources and infrastructure for biotechnology in Nigeria; develop sustainable exploitation of bio resources for our food  and agriculture; develop mechanism for adequate funding of biotechnology activities through national and international funding agencies, among other responsibilities.

Okolo, therefore, called for adequate sensitisation of the activities of the agency as well as spread of the agency’s presence across the 36 states of the country to avail Nigerians of their much needed services.

He lamented that the current realities on hunger and poverty across the country has made it imperative that government must desist from paying lip service to issues of diversification of the economy through agricultural transformation and manufacturing, insisting that to transform agriculture, government must encourage agricultural mechanisation and set up an agency focused solely on extension of low credit facilities to farmers.

How To Gain Healthy Body Fat

ganze und halbe avocado isoliert auf weiss
I used to be on this side of the fence, but no more. But it’s great to get this sort of information to help those who need to add weight, the healthy way:
If you have a BMI that is less than 18.5, you are considered underweight. Being underweight also makes it more difficult for your body to heal after injuries, infections and medical treatments.
What to do to gain weight:
Eat meals and snacks every two to three hours instead of eating three meals per day.
Increase the amount of healthy food you eat, like fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains.
Eat liberally of healthy fats; like nuts, seeds, avocados and fatty fish.
Eat plenty of carbohydrates, like pasta, rice, muffins and whole-wheat bread.
Add low-fat dairy products, like cheese, yogurt or sour cream to your meals wherever you can. Drink smoothies or high-calorie juice, protein or meal-replacement drinks 30 minutes before meals instead of with meal.

10 Million Farmers to Benefit......

The Federal Government is to spend about N60 billion to procure 10million telephone handsets from China and the US for free distribution to rural farmers across the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Ibukun Odusote, said the handsets would be made available to the farmers in the first quarter of this year.

She said the programme is aimed at establishing direct electronic communication between the government and farmers on agricultural matters, adding that the beneficiaries would be “women and youths” in rural areas.
“The handsets will be the tools with which to communicate with the farmers in the rural areas, deep deep into the interiors so that we will be able to communicate with them even in the hinterlands.”
Jeez, this country! N60billion to buy handsets? What are they buying, BlackBerry Porsche phones? Lol. And did the farmers say that their problem is a mobile phone? I don't understand this our government...
